Transforming OWA into an Enterprise KillerApp

OWA combined with file sharing meets the broad remote access needs of 95% of employees.

Since its inception in Exchange 5.5, (OWA) Outlook Web Access from Microsoft™ has been steadily increasing in performance, functionality and popularity with each new version. Initially deployed only as a backup corporate email system, OWA is fast being considered as a key enterprise application. As organizations get their first look at OWA 2003 many are making large roll-out plans. It’s been said to be one of the main cost justification points to upgrade to Exchange 2003.

All this renewed OWA interest makes perfect sense as today’s work culture is fast evolving from exclusively office-based to one in which telecommuting, home offices and other remote work environments have created the need for the “Everywhere Office.” Further analysis suggests only 5% of enterprise employees the most mobile portions of workforce have remote access through traditional IP VPN. It appears traditional client-based applications and VPN security solutions have not allowed organizations to scale remote access effectively.

Due in part to recent events such as 9/11 and SARS, having a simple remote access solution available to 95% of the work force is being considered mandatory for business continuity and disaster recovery.

Web-based clientless applications are the key to scaling and cost effectiveness. Studies now show employees can be very productive with access to two applications, email as well as data and files contained on the corporate LAN. According to Mr. Bryon Bertrim co-founder of Everywhere Networks, “Not only does OWA and remote file access offer great employee productivity, now having an enterprise-wide installed and working remote access is part of the organizations (DR) disaster recovery plan.”

As the leader in enhancements for OWA, Everywhere Networks Corporation can help you increase the usability of OWA with products such as Fileway™ and SecureView™ attachment viewing for OWA. They are also the maker of KillerApps  for SharePoint, ISA, Websphere, Plumtree and other corporate portals.
